Coco-glucoside is a nonionic, amber-colored, cloudy viscous liquid (2,000 cps at 75°F; crystallizes at < 60°F) that exhibits good water solubility due to its hydroxyl groups. The carbon chain distribution of coco-glucoside typically ranges between C8-14. The product's cloudiness is attributed to its magnesium oxide content (max. 500 ppm) and the pH value at which it is supplied. This cloudiness dissipates when the pH value is adjusted below 7. The product is commonly supplied at active levels of 50-60% and has a high alkaline pH, typically around 12, rendering it self-preserving as-is.

What Is Apg 0814/Coco Glucoside Chemistry And Properties
Coco-glucoside is produced by combining glucose with fatty alcohol from coconut oil feedstock in the presence of acid catalysts at elevated temperatures. The fatty alcohol used for synthesis can be obtained either from synthetic (petrochemical) or natural sources (fats and oils). Due to their renewable nature, fatty alcohol blends from natural resources are preferred to build up the hydrophobic part of the coco-glucoside molecule.
Coco-glucoside synthesis from polymeric carbohydrates requires higher reaction temperatures to achieve efficient depolymerization and conversion to the glucosides. This process results in degradative side reactions generating undesirable by-products and colored impurities. On the other hand, coco-glucoside synthesized from monomeric carbohydrates such as glucose can be condensed with fatty alcohols at lower temperatures, resulting in a cleaner and higher quality grade of coco-glucoside.

1. Mild anionic surfactant. Applicable to a variety of personal care products, such as cream rinses, body shower foams, and shampoos. It can make skin soft, smooth, and moist, and make hair easy to comb.
2. Raw material for baby soap, complex soap, synthetic soap, and semi-synthetic soap. It can be used to make neutral soap as the main surfactant when mixed with pigments, fragrances, and other additives. It reduces the irritancy of soap-based products, improves hard-water resistance, foaming ability, and feeling on the skin. Moisture and softening effects can be obtained. Adding 10-15% Igepon A to ordinary soap can leave skin feeling fresh, smooth, and moist.
